Seven Lakes West is a private, gated community located 10 miles west of Pinehurst, and was rated by
"Where to Retire" magazine as one of the Top 100 Master-Planned Retirement Communities in the United States. The community covers 3,500 acres and will have approximately 1,500 homes when completed. There are 504 lakefront lots, most of which have homes built on them already, as well as 181 lots fronting on the Beacon Ridge Country Club golf course. The newest neighborhood is Morgan Woods at Beacon Ridge (500 acres), which is most appealing to those desiring an equestrian lifestyle or a private, country style of living. These properties range from 5-17 acres.
The focal point of Seven Lakes is Lake Auman, a 1000-acre spring-fed body of water which a Secchi water clarity test showed is one of the clearest in the country. It ranks second of 49 bodies of water tested in North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Tennessee. Lake front property owners access the lake from private docks, while other residents use the marina, which features docks equipped with electrical outlets and is adjacent to a park area with a sandy beach, gazebos, picnic grills, and a bath house. There is also a boat and trailer storage area available for property owners.
Membership in two local country clubs is available to residents (not included in Property Owners Association dues). Beacon Ridge CC offers a championship 18-hole golf course designed by Gene Hamm and is a semi-private facility located within the Seven Lakes West gated area. There is a pool, tennis courts, restaurant, and pro shop within the clubhouse. Practice facilities are on site and private golf carts are allowed. Membership is also available to 7 Lakes West property owners at the 18-hole Seven Lakes CC, an equity membership course, located about 2 miles from the Beacon Ridge at Seven Lakes entrance.
Westside Park, a 30-acre complex, is under development. The community center, which opened in 2005, contains the administrative offices for the Westside Property Owners' Association and features a large meeting/dining room. It houses state-of-the-art kitchen facilities for association meetings and/or for rental by residents, or sponsored outside individuals or groups for social events. Currently Seven Lakes West property owners can enjoy a swimming pool, cabana, tennis courts, a basketball court, and the children's playground. Future projects include plans for walking and nature trails, a sheltered picnic area, shuffleboard, bleachers, and horseshoe pits.
