Enjoy the "Golf Capital of the World"
For more than a century, "Pinehurst" has been synonymous with golf. Dubbed the “Golf Capital of the World”, Pinehurst is located in the Sandhills area of eastern North Carolina. James Walker Tufts founded the town of Pinehurst as a winter resort for New Englanders. It didn't take long for the founder to realize the area's potential and soon he developed his resort into a premier golfing destination. Today there are more than 30 courses in the area. On numerous occasions, Pinehurst has served as the home to the men’s U.S. Open and, later this year the U.S. Women’s Open will return again to the Pine Needles course.
In addition to great golf courses, Pinehurst has so much more
to offer for outdoor activities. There are a number of parks and lakes that offer tennis, riding, hiking, boating, fishing and other outdoor activities.
